I remember the very first time I heard Vincent Herring play the saxophone. It was 1997 and I was driving through snowy upstate New York with a fellow saxophonist who said, you gotta hear this guy.
He put a CD in the car stereo of a live recording of Vincent Herring with Nat Adderley’s band, and that was it for me. I had just discovered my new favorite alto player.
