Originally composed in 1955 for a prison film called Unchained, Unchained Melody has since been covered by more than 500 different artists, but the most iconic version remains the one recorded by the Righteous Brothers in 1965. The song’s title isn’t referenced at all in its lyrics, which are about a lonely person pining for their faraway lover.
